Kellen Chavez

Kellen is 31 years old. When he’s not preparing to start his second career as a high school math teacher, he can be found out running, riding his bike or desperately trying to improve his swim stroke. He took up running in 2009 when he realized that pickup basketball was becoming too demanding and targeted the PF Changs Rock n Roll half marathon in January 2010. At mile 12 in that race, his entire body went numb and he swore he would never run anything similar ever again. Now, nearly 7 years later and a recent BQ,  Kellen laughs at how wrong he was in that final mile of suffering. Now a days, he loves talking with fellow runners about their training and race-day experiences. Kellen even picked up a part-time job at a tremendous local running shop, Tortoise and Hare Sports in Phoenix, AZ, because he loves the running community so much. Joining Beast Pacing was a perfect opportunity for him because he is also passionate about helping fellow runners realize their personal time goals, whether they’re completely new to running or trying to push through a barrier like 90 minutes for a half marathon. Running has truly become a part of Kellen’s lifestyle and he greatly looks forward to seeing some you on race day!
